Coach Mindset
Last updated onA Coach. Not a Player
I sometimes need to remind myself the above as I engage with people and teams I support.
Being biased to action and an engineer at heart often amkes it temping to jump in the trenches and fix that bug\code that feature myself.
While this approach helps reach the near term goal faster it is counterproductive on the long term when scaling the team.
- There is only so much you can do yourself
- Empower the team to take care of sh*t

Or as Joey puts it:
Being biased to action (and an ex bball player) often makes it tempting to jump on the court and take the winning shot.
It’s absurd, could you imagine Phil Jackson subbing Michael Jordan and stepping on the court to take the last shot?
The reality is that if you do that, you’ve failed yourself and your team.
Accept your role, trust that you have the best players on the court and focus on creating an environment where they can excel and shine their talents.
